The announcement was made during 5FM's 5 Drive programme following speculation about who would co-host the awards alongside Nyovest. During the broadcast, Nyovest revealed Potelwa as his co-host, after which she confirmed the appointment with her management live on air, says the station.
Nyovest says hosting the awards was an honour and that he looked forward to working alongside Potelwa.
"I'm very excited to be going home and reuniting with the SAMAs in such an incredible way. It's an honour to follow in the footsteps of legends like HHP and Kabelo Mabalane (Bouga Luv), who have also hosted the SAMAs. I've got so much to say about it, but if I had to put it in a nutshell, I'm simply excited and deeply honoured. I'm also really looking forward to working with Zanele Potelwa. I look forward to learning from her while also bringing my own energy and vibe to the stage. Together, I think we're going to create the kind of hosting experience people will remember for years to come."
Potelwa says she was grateful for the opportunity and looked forward to hosting the event.
"This a milestone I am so excited for and to be able to share it with an icon: Cassper Nyovest. What an honour. I can't wait to be of service to the country and deliver an unforgettably beautiful show. It's going to be one for the history books in the best way possible and I am so excited to be the nation's Host and the People's Champion on that stage, staying true to the epitome of excellence — 'no DNA, just RSA'."
The 32nd Annual South African Music Awards, themed Homecoming Edition, will recognise achievements in the South African music industry, says the station.
Nyovest is a South African hip-hop artist, entrepreneur and founder of Family Tree Records. He has released multiple platinum-selling albums and is known for large-scale concert productions, including the Fill Up series. The 2026 ceremony will mark his first time hosting the SAMAs.
Potelwa is a broadcaster and television presenter who hosts 5 Drive on 5FM. She has also presented programmes including Expresso, Selimathunzi and Tropika Island of Treasure, and has worked on SABC Sport broadcasts. She is the founder of the Zanele Potelwa Foundation, which focuses on youth development and community initiatives.
SAMA32 spokesperson Unati Gwua said Nyovest and Potelwa were selected to reflect the event's theme.
"Cassper Nyovest is well suited to lead the Homecoming Edition, while Zanele Potelwa represents the theme, The Future Sounds Like Now Now."
